Tuesday: Indecision the Cause of Ill Health
WEEK 31
TUESDAY
INDECISION THE CAUSE OF ILL HEALTH
John 14:25-27
The Spirit within helps us to health by helping us decide things. When we listen to the Counselor, then we decide things and get off the horns of dilemmas and, hence, are well persons. Raymond Lull was a great missionary when he really surrendered. But for some time he was upset because he was undecided. When about to get on board ship to sail to do missionary work among the Saracens, he pulled back at the last minute and let the ship sail without him. He became ill, with a high temperature. He got on another ship, but they put him off when they saw he was ill. Then he got on a third ship; when it actually got out of the harbor, his fever left him. He was well—well because he was really surrendered to being a missionary.
The wife of a college president was laid up for a year with a bad heart. It all began as self-pity and developed into resentments about a certain senator. “Why doesn’t somebody kill him?” she asked. She almost went into a spasm when he came back into headlines in the newspapers. She began to be irritable toward her husband, and as a consequence he began to be irritable toward her. Everything was tied in knots. Then she surrendered this inner resentment to God, she inwardly relaxed and was well. The Spirit within helped her to right relationships and hence to health.
A man, who had ulcers for years, could get no insurance. The ulcers were gone in a week after he read Abundant Living and surrendered his fears and resentments. The doctors were puzzled. He now has forty thousand dollars’ worth of insurance. Above all he is a happy, useful, untied man. The Spirit within brought health through deliverance.
Another man said to me, “I had glaucoma of the eyes, with only a short time of sight left. You counseled and prayed with me, and out of that I found peace and a surrender of the will that has only recently brought an amazing result. On last examination about a month ago the doctor found the tension entirely gone—negative.” Clearing up the inside through the Spirit means clearing up the outside, and that means health and glorious well-being.
O Spirit of God, teach us how to let go of any clinging fold within that may keep us from you and hence from health. Help us to cut the last strand that holds us to ill health. Amen.
AFFIRMATION FOR THE DAY: I shall make the best decisions in the light of my best knowledge and leave the results with God.
