108. TO MAINER, ABBOT OF
SAINT EVROUL.
Anselm informs Abbot Mainer of Saint-Evroul about the delay of his second jour ney to England and thanks him for his prayers. He asks to have Dom Serlo sent to him.
TO HIS LORD AND FATHER, THE REVEREND ABBOT MAINER1:
BROTHER ANSELM SENDS GREETING.
YOU SHOULD KNOW that I shall not be going on that journey2 which I mentioned to you before the Octave of Epiphany. Furthermore, I do not know when I shall travel or whether I shall travel at all. In the meanwhile, if it pleases you to have Dom Serlo3 come to us, when this is convenient to you, he may stay as long as you command. This would indeed please me and, I think, not displease him. I pray your holiness, if it is no trouble to you, that what I have told you about our journey should be made known by you to our fellow-monks and friends at the monastery of Seez.
I know that they, like you, are earnestly praying for me for the safety of this journey. Nor should your charity regret having prayed for our journey, because I am not yet travel ing. For God is able to make use of your prayers for me at the right time. Farewell. c. 1085.
