I’ll Supply Every Need of Yours

THIS BLESSED, BLESSED passage: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). “My God will supply every need of yours.” This is no chance saying; it is the summing up of a divine intention as revealed in the Scriptures. He intends to supply our needs—not our greeds, but our needs. “He will rise and give him whatever he needs” (Luke 11:8). “Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well” (Matt. 6:32–33). “‘Why are you untying the colt?’ And they said, ‘The Lord has need of it.’ And they brought it to Jesus” (Luke 19:33–35). “They sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need” (Acts 2:45). Now this verse sums up the whole divine intention—to “supply every need of yours.”

Before we were brought into the world the Father provided for our needs. The child on being born needs air to breathe; it is there for the taking—taking by a cry. It needs milk; it is there in the mother’s breast. It needs love, and love is there in the parents’ hearts ready to be poured out as needed. As God has provided for our physical and emotional needs, so He has provided for all our spiritual needs—provided for them on a lavish scale: “according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” We plug in to have our needs met, not at the place of His poverty—His earthly wanderings—but at the place of His riches in glory. We plug in at the very highest place—His riches in glory. This is “glory” giving, and not from the ordinary possession of glory, but “according to his riches in glory.” To be poor in the face of that is to be poor in receiving. The giving end is rich, the receiving end is poor in receiving. Stay in Him and your needs—every need of yours—is supplied! I could dance—I do, at least in my heart! Who wouldn’t?

O my Father, I am overwhelmed at the lavish provision Thou hast made to supply every need I have. I am also overwhelmed with shame that I take so little. Thou art offering by handfuls and I take with thimblefuls. Forgive me. Amen.

AFFIRMATION FOR THE DAY: As long as I stay in Jesus, God underwrites the supply of all my needs.
