THANK YOU, SCRIPTURE UNION
As Publisher of The Open Your Bible Commentary I wish to express my gratitude and appreciation to the worldwide family of Scripture Union.
My first encounter with Scripture Union was as a new Christian aged 15, when I became a Sunday School teacher. I still remember the Scripture Union resource book on 1 & 2 Samuel, prepared by one of the “Goodman” brothers.
Ten years later, married and with a young family of four inquisitive children, I was pleased to embrace the Daily Bible Reading notes prepared by Scripture Union, as well as making use of the children’s camps for which Scripture union are famous. My only disappointment with the Bible reading notes was that, for children, they were not illustrated. A further ten years on, I was able to remedy this, when I left a senior executive position in retailing to join Scripture Union as their Marketing & Publishing Director.
I can say that my time at Scripture Union was an essential learning period in my life, and working alongside Paul Marsh, the Editorial Publisher, gave me the foundation for my publishing career.
While at Scripture Union, I discovered what I believe to be the very best Bible Study Notes, covering Genesis to Revelation, written by leading biblical scholars and edited by Arthur E. Cundall. These study notes have formed the basis of The Open Your Bible Commentary, sensitively edited by Martin Manser. Through Martin and the designer I am positive that—by basing these studies on the NIV and the ESV—as well as being applicable to other traditional and modern translations, a major contribution to daily study of the Bible has been maintained.
So—THANK YOU, Scripture Union—and to you we dedicate The Open Your Bible Commentary.
