  • Find a panoramic view of Trinity Great Court (the largest of any Cambridge or Oxford college) on the BBC Cambridgeshire website.
  • Listen to John Stott preach. Go to www.allsouls.org. Search for his name, then register (free) to download or listen on line to his sermons.
  • Consider reading the Bible through in a year, using the McCheyne Bible reading plan which John Stott used. You will find it as a free download. Or it is published under the title More Precious than Gold in The Didasko Files series with John Stott’s brief introduction.
  • Consider what ‘life verses’ you would talk about if you were asked, and why you would aim to live by them (Fact File 9,).
  • The cross was always, always, always at the centre of John Stott’s preaching. Read a book which explains why Jesus died. If The Cross of Christ by John Stott is too long, try shorter ones written by two friends of his: Cross Examined by Mark Meynell or The Glory of the Cross by James Philip.
  • Read The Cape Town Commitment at www.lausanne.org.
  • Choose one or two of John Stott’s books to read. They are all easily available new and secondhand.

Here are some to select from:

The Radical Disciple (his final book)

    Basic Christianity

    Christ the Controversialist

    Issues Facing Christians Today

    People my Teachers

    The Birds, our Teachers

    The Cross of Christ

    Understanding the Bible

    Why I am a Christian

John Stott founded the Bible Speaks Today series of commentaries. The ‘BSTs’ as they are known, do two jobs. They explain the Bible books and apply what the Bible teaches. He edited all the New Testament volumes and wrote seven of them himself.

All John Stott’s papers have been archived in Lambeth Palace Library in London. They could have been placed in university archives, or in the Billy Graham Center in Wheaton, Illinois, USA. He chose Lambeth as a symbol of his deep commitment to the Anglican Church.
