THREE DIRECTIONS NOT CHOSEN
There were three directions in life which John Stott did not pursue. Had he followed any one of them, his life would have been different. Each would have been good in itself, but John sensed that none was in God’s plan for him.
First, he did not become a Bishop, though he was pressed to do so from when he was a young rector.
Secondly, he did not teach in a university, though he could have become a Professor in one of the world’s best-known.
Thirdly, he did not marry. There were two times in his life when he wondered if he might marry, but on each occasion he drew back, sensing it was not God’s will for him.
His millions of miles travelled, and his millions of words written required freedom from these responsibilities.
