9th to 10th Centuries
Appendix In their work on the manuscript tradition of Basil's Hexaemeron, Emmanuel Amand de
Mendieta and Stig Y. Rudberg identified three different collections in which that work appears.¹ The first is the 'small' collection, including Basil's Hexaemeron and the two homilies On the Words: Let us Make the Human Being (also called Homilies on the Creation of the Human Being; CPG 3217) to which the apocryphal homily On Paradise
(CPG 3217) is sometimes added. The second is the 'normal' collection, in which Basil's
Hexaemeron is supplemented by Gregory's On the Human Image of God and sometimes his
Hexaemeron. The third is a larger collection, bringing together all the texts that are in the small and normal collection: Gregory's On the Human Image of God, the Hexaemeron, the two homilies On the Words: Let us Make the Human Being, and occasionally the Hexaemeron and On Paradise. Of the manuscripts that they list, 68 contain Gregory's treatise (18 in the large collection; 50 in the normal collection), 14 of which had been used by Forbes. This appendix provides a full list of these 68 manuscripts, together with the details they supplied and further details gained from the collation undertaken for this volume. The online database 'Pinakes|Πίνακες Textes et manuscrits grecs' lists 166 manuscripts of Gregory's treatise.²

² https://pinakes.irht.cnrs.fr (accessed 23 October, 2021); the information it supplies, however, should be treated with caution: it lists the 8th to 9th century Athens, EBE 223 as containing exclusively works by Basil but also as including Gregory's treatise; and it dates Moscow, Musée historique, grec 81
Vladimir to the 10th century, which as M–R observe is correct for folios 2–120, but folios 121–235, in which we have Gregory's work, date to the 12th century.
