The book

The Life and Work of St. Paul was written by Frederic William Farrar (1831–1903) — Canon of Westminster, later Dean of Canterbury — and published in two volumes by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co. (London and New York) in 1879–80. It was the sequel to his Life of Christ (1874).

Farrar died in 1903 and the work was published in 1879–80; the original text is therefore in the public domain worldwide, and UECF.NET makes no claim of ownership over it. The citation printed at the end of the source volume is preserved:

How the text was prepared

• Text extraction

  The source PDF contains real, selectable text — it is not a scan — so no OCR was required. The text was extracted with font- and geometry-aware tooling so that body text, small capitals, superscript footnote markers and the footnote apparatus could be told apart reliably.

• Structure

  Book and chapter divisions, chapter titles and the chapter “arguments” come from the printed table of contents of the source volume. All ten Books, fifty-seven chapters and twenty-nine excursuses are present.

• Footnotes

  Farrar's footnotes are reproduced in English on both the English and the Telugu pages, since they consist very largely of Greek, Latin and German citations. Each in-text marker links to its note and back.

• Greek and Latin

  Quotations in Greek, Latin and Hebrew are kept in their original scripts, exactly as printed.

• Tables

  Two places in the appendices print very wide multi-column tables. The year-by-year chronological table has been transcribed into a real HTML table; the comparative table of chronological schemes and the table of uncial manuscripts do not reflow into a single web column and are flagged in place with a note pointing to the source pages.

Audio

Every chapter page carries a full audio player. No MP3 files ship with this edition, so the players start disabled and show a note. Drop a file named after the chapter slug into audio/en/ or audio/te/ and that chapter's player activates by itself — no code change is needed.
