PUBLISHER’S NOTE
While the text of the 1984 edition remains basically unchanged, this 1999 edition has several features that make an outstanding book even more useful to readers. Focus questions have been added at the beginning of each chapter. A person index and a subject index make a wealth of information more retrievable. The maps contain more information than in the 1984 edition. Finally, the interior typography has been redesigned for greater readability and visual appeal.
