corruption and suffering and death.

And we know that the ordinances imposed because of your people's hardness of heart do not at all conduce to right conduct and right worship."

IV.

The Pre-Existence and Divine Nature of Christ.

[Chapters 49 and 50 argue that John the Baptist was endowed with the spirit of Elijah to anoint the Christ before the Day of Judgment.] (Justin is speaking) 54. "Now this account by Moses of the prophecy of the patriarch Jacob, namely, He shall wash his garment in wine and his cloak in the blood of the grape!, was revealing that he should wash those who believed in him in his blood.

For by his garment the Holy Spirit meant those who received remission of sins through him, among whom he is always present in power and will be visibly present at his Second

Coming.

In using the phrase the blood of the grape the Spirit indicated by artifice that though Christ has blood it is not from the seed of men but from the power of God.

For just as it is not man who has produced the blood of the grape, but God, so he predicted that the blood of Christ was not to be of human stock but of the power of God. My friends, this very prophecy which I have mentioned shows that Christ is not a man descended from men, begotten according to the common way of men."

55.

Then Trypho interposed: "We shall remember this exposition of yours also, if you solve this problem by other proof-texts as well.

But now return to your argument and demonstrate to us that another God in addition to the Creator of the world is declared by the Prophetic Spirit to exist.

You must be careful to rule out the sun and the moon 1Gen. 49:11.
