Brother Andrew
Brother Andrew is the pen name of Andrew van der Bijl (born 1928), a Dutch Christian who, beginning in the 1950s, traveled across closed borders into Communist-bloc countries carrying Bibles and other Christian literature for believers who had little or no access to them. His journeys, and the churches and isolated Christians he encountered along the way, are the subject of God's Smuggler, first published in 1967. Brother Andrew went on to found Open Doors, a ministry that continues to serve persecuted Christians worldwide.
John L. Sherrill and Elizabeth Sherrill
John L. Sherrill and Elizabeth Sherrill were a husband-and-wife team of journalists and authors associated for many years with Guideposts magazine. Working from Brother Andrew's own account, they wrote God's Smuggler as his as-told-to narrative, and the couple went on to collaborate with a number of other Christian authors and ministry leaders on similar first-person accounts.
