About the Author

Matthew Fox is author of over thirty-five books on culture and spirituality, which have been translated into seventy-five languages and received many awards. In his books and teaching he has brought alive the much neglected Creation Spirituality tradition of the West. He lectures internationally and has created a pedagogy for spiritual learning experiences that have reached many thousands of persons through Mundelein College in Chicago, Holy Names College, and the University of Creation Spirituality, which he founded and led for nine years in Oakland, California, along with his pilot program, YELLAWE, for inner city youth.

For speaking out on women’s rights, gay rights, and Native American rights, he was silenced for a year and later expelled from the Dominican Order under the papacies of John Paul II and Benedict XVI. He then joined the Episcopal Church to work with young people to create postmodern forms of ritual and worship known as the “Cosmic Mass” that incorporates dance, DJ, VJ, rap, and other postmodern art forms. He is co-founder of the Order of the Sacred Earth and, since Mother’s Day 2019, has offered free daily meditations at dailymeditationswithmatthewfox.org.

Fox is a visiting scholar at the Academy for the Love of Learning in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and he heads an online certificate course in Creation Spirituality and Leadership at Global Ministries University as of March, 2020. He is a recipient of the Abbey Courage of Conscience Peace Award, whose other recipients include the Dalai Lama, Rosa Parks, Mother Teresa, Ernesto Cardinale, and Maya Angelou. Other awards include the Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Prize from Morehouse College, the Humanities Award of the Sufi International Association of Sufism, and the Tikkun Ethics Award.
