She earlier served in Chennai and moved to Ongole in 1884. Rauschenbusch-Clough, sister of Walter Rauschenbusch, married John Everett Clough in 1894 and continued with missionary work until their retirement in 1906. Rauschenbusch-Clough remained in Ongole until 1910. She interviewed several Madigas in and around Ongole for this ethnography.
