About this book
Spiritual Depression: Its Causes and Cure
Twenty-one sermons preached on consecutive Sunday mornings at Westminster Chapel, London, and first published by Eerdmans in 1965. Lloyd-Jones — a physician before he was a preacher — diagnoses the unhappy, joyless Christian with a doctor's eye and prescribes for each condition from Scripture. His conviction is that a depressed Church is a poor recommendation for the gospel, and that the joy of the early Christians was one of the most powerful reasons for its spread. The book has been continuously in print for six decades and was named by World magazine among the hundred most significant books of the millennium.

How to use this study companion
This is a guide to the book, not a copy of it. Spiritual Depression remains in copyright, so its text is not reproduced here; what you will find for each sermon is the Scripture passage it expounds (King James Version), a short statement of the cause and cure it addresses, an original summary of the argument, its key points, the illustrations the preacher uses, related passages, and three questions for personal reflection or group discussion. Read the sermon in the book, then use the page here to review, discuss and apply it.
Every page has Previous / Next links, the full list of sermons, adjustable text size, dark mode, bookmarks, and search across the whole guide (press Ctrl K). Your reading position and bookmarks are saved in this browser only.
