Chapter 1: The Ordo Salutis

Romans 8:28–30  And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose, 29 because those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he should be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined, these he also called, and those whom he called, these he also justified, and those whom he justified, these he also glorified.

Romans 6:1–15  What therefore shall we say? Shall we continue in sin, in order that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we may live a new way of life. 5 For if we have become identified with him in the likeness of his death, certainly also we will be identified with him in the likeness of his resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified together with him, in order that the body of sin may be done away with, that we may no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For the one who has died has been freed from sin.

8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him, 9 knowing that Christ, because he has been raised from the dead, is going to die no more, death no longer being master over him. 10 For that death he died, he died to sin once and never again, but that life he lives, he lives to God. 11 So also you, consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires, 13 and do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin will not be master over you, because you are not under law, but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him—this one bears much fruit, for apart from me you are not able to do anything. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and dries up, and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

Romans 7:14–25  For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold into slavery to sin. 15 For what I am doing I do not understand, because what I want to do, this I do not practice, but what I hate, this I do. 16 But if what I do not want to do, this I do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 But now I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that lives in me. 18 For I know that good does not live in me, that is, in my flesh. For the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want to do, I do not do, but the evil that I do not want to do, this I do. 20 But if what I do not want to do, this I am doing, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that lives in me.

21 Consequently, I find the principle with me, the one who wants to do good, that evil is present with me. 22 For I joyfully agree with the law of God in my inner person, 23 but I observe another law in my members, at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that exists in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself with my mind am enslaved to the law of God, but with my flesh I am enslaved to the law of sin.

Romans 7:18  For I know that good does not live in me, that is, in my flesh. For the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.

Romans 7:17  But now I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that lives in me.

Romans 7:20  But if what I do not want to do, this I am doing, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that lives in me.

Romans 7:18  For I know that good does not live in me, that is, in my flesh. For the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.

Romans 7:22  For I joyfully agree with the law of God in my inner person,

Romans 7:23  but I observe another law in my members, at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that exists in my members.

2 Corinthians 4:16  Therefore we do not lose heart, but even if our outer person is being destroyed, yet our inner person is being renewed day after day.

Ephesians 3:16  that he may grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person,

1 Peter 3:4  but the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is highly valuable in the sight of God.

Romans 7:24  Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

Romans 7:19  For the good that I want to do, I do not do, but the evil that I do not want to do, this I do.

Galatians 2:20  and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me, and that life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 5:17  For the flesh desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, for these are in opposition to one another, so that whatever you want, you may not do these things.

Chapter 3: Conversion

Titus 1:15  To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but both their mind and conscience are defiled.

Romans 14:5  One person prefers one day over another day, and another person regards every day alike. Each one must be fully convinced in his own mind.

2 Timothy 2:25  correcting those who are opposed with gentleness, seeing whether perhaps God may grant them repentance to a knowledge of the truth,

Acts 8:22  Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and ask the Lord if perhaps the intent of your heart may be forgiven you!”

Hebrews 6:1  Therefore, leaving behind the elementary message about Christ, let us move on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and faith in God,

2 Corinthians 7:9–10  now I rejoice, not that you were grieved, but that you were grieved to repentance. For you were grieved according to the will of God, so that you suffered loss in no way through us. 10 For grief according to the will of God brings about a repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted, but worldly grief brings about death.

Luke 17:4  And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times he returns to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

Acts 15:3  So they were sent on their way by the church, and passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, telling in detail the conversion of the Gentiles and bringing great joy to all the brothers.

1 Samuel 7:3  And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If with all your heart you are turning to Yahweh, remove the foreign gods and Ashtoreths from your midst. Commit your hearts to Yahweh and serve him alone. Then he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”

1 Kings 8:33  When your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they sinned against you, and when they turn to you and confess your name and pray and beg for mercy from you in this house,

Matthew 21:29  And he answered and said, ‘I do not want to!’ But later he changed his mind and went.

Matthew 21:32  For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did believe him. And when you saw it, you did not even change your minds later so as to believe in him.

Luke 17:3  “Be concerned about yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.

Acts 11:18  And when they heard these things, they became silent and praised God, saying, “Then God has granted the repentance leading to life to the Gentiles also!”

2 Timothy 2:25  correcting those who are opposed with gentleness, seeing whether perhaps God may grant them repentance to a knowledge of the truth,

Romans 3:20  For by the works of the law no person will be declared righteous before him, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

Romans 10:17  Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word about Christ.

Galatians 2:19–20  For through the law I died to the law, in order that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ, 20 and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me, and that life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Romans 6:6  knowing this, that our old man was crucified together with him, in order that the body of sin may be done away with, that we may no longer be enslaved to sin.

Romans 6:4  Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we may live a new way of life.

Please turn back, each one from his evil way, and walk rightly in your ways and your deeds.” ’

Revelation 2:5  Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the works you did at first. But if you do not, I am coming to you, and I will remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

James 5:19–20  My brothers, if anyone among you should wander away from the truth and someone turns him back, 20 he should know that the one who turns a sinner back from the error of his way will save that person’s soul from death, and will cover over a great number of sins.

Chapter 4: Faith

Deuteronomy 9:23  And when Yahweh sent you out from Kadesh Barnea, saying, ‘Go up and take possession of the land that I have given you,’ you rebelled against the command of Yahweh your God, and you did not believe him, and you did not listen to his voice.

Psalm 33:4  For the word of Yahweh is upright,

and all his work is done in faithfulness.

Jeremiah 5:3  O Yahweh, do not your eyes look for honesty?

You have struck them, but they felt no pain,

you have destroyed them, they refused to take discipline.

They have hardened their faces more than rock,

they have refused to turn back.

Habakkuk 2:4  Look! His spirit within him is puffed up;

it is not upright.

But the righteous shall live by his faithfulness.

Psalm 13:5  But as for me, I have trusted in your steadfast love.

My heart will rejoice in your deliverance.

Psalm 28:7  Yahweh is my strength and my shield.

My heart trusts him and I am helped.

So my heart rejoices,

and with my song I will give thanks to him.

Psalm 57:1  Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me,

because in you my soul takes refuge.

In the shadow of your wings I will take refuge

until destruction passes by.

They shall go up with wings like eagles;

they shall run and not grow weary;

they shall walk and not be faint.

Psalm 27:14  Wait for Yahweh.

Be strong and let your heart show strength,

and wait for Yahweh.

John 10:25  Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe! The deeds that I do in the name of my Father, these testify about me.

Acts 13:41  ‘Look, you scoffers,

and be astonished and perish!

For I am doing a work in your days,

a work that you would never believe

even if someone were to tell it to you.’ ”

James 2:19  You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe, and shudder!

Romans 6:8  Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him,

1 Thessalonians 4:14  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, thus also God will bring those who have fallen asleep through Jesus together with him.

John 3:12  If I tell you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

John 6:36  But I said to you that you have seen me and do not believe.

John 10:37–38  If I do not do the deeds of my Father, do not believe me. 38 But if I am doing them, even if you do not believe me, believe the deeds, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”

Acts 27:25  Therefore keep up your courage, men, for I believe God that it will be like this—according to the way it was told to me.

John 4:21  Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, that an hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

John 4:48  So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe!”

2 Corinthians 5:7  for we live by faith, not by sight—

John 20:8  So then the other disciple who had come to the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed.

John 20:29  Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen me, have you believed? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”

John 4:42  And they were saying to the woman, “No longer because of what you said do we believe, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this one is truly the Savior of the world!”

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the realization of what is hoped for, the proof of things not seen.

Romans 8:24–25  For in hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we await it eagerly with patient endurance.

Hebrews 11:7  By faith Noah, having been warned about things not yet seen, out of reverence constructed an ark for the deliverance of his family, by which he pronounced sentence on the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

Romans 10:5–6  For Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: “The person who does this will live by it.” 6 But the righteousness from faith speaks like this: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down),

Galatians 3:23–25  But before faith came, we were detained under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith was revealed. 24 So then, the law became our guardian until Christ, in order that we could be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

Romans 4:13–14  For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants, that he would be heir of the world, was not through the law, but through the righteousness by faith. 14 For if those of the law are heirs, faith is rendered void and the promise is nullified.

Romans 3:28  For we consider a person to be justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

Romans 4:24  but also for the sake of us to whom it is going to be credited, to those who believe in the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,

Colossians 2:12  having been buried with him in baptism, in which also you were raised together with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Romans 10:14  How then will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in him about whom they have not heard? And how will they hear about him without one who preaches to them?

Galatians 3:26  For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,

Romans 9:33  just as it is written,

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble,

and a rock that causes them to fall,

and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Romans 10:11  For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Isaiah 28:16  Therefore the Lord Yahweh says this:

“Look! I am laying a stone in Zion,

a tested stone,

a precious cornerstone,

a founded foundation:

‘The one who trusts will not panic.’

Romans 3:22  that is, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. For there is no distinction,

Romans 3:26  in the forbearance of God, for the demonstration of his righteousness in the present time, so that he should be just and the one who justifies the person by faith in Jesus.

Galatians 2:16  but knowing that a person is not justified by the works of the law, if not by faith in Jesus Christ, and we have believed in Christ Jesus so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will be justified.

Galatians 3:22  But the scripture imprisoned all under sin, in order that the promise could be given by faith in Jesus Christ to those who believe.

1 Corinthians 2:8  which none of the rulers of this age knew. For if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

1 Corinthians 12:3  Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed,” and no one is able to say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 1:17  For the righteousness of God is revealed in it from faith to faith, just as it is written, “But the one who is righteous by faith will live.”

John 3:14–15  And just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, thus it is necessary that the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.”

Matthew 5:6  Blessed are the ones who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

because they will be satisfied.

John 6:48  I am the bread of life.

John 6:50  This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that someone may eat from it and not die.

John 6:53–58  Then Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves! 54 The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also the one who eats me—that one will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. The one who eats this bread will live forever.”

John 1:12  But as many as received him—to those who believe in his name—he gave to them authority to become children of God,
