Part IV. Classical literature
In 1922, Lewis gained First-Class Honours in Literae Humaniores, as Classics was then called at Oxford, and in the following year, he gained First-Class Honours in English Language and Literature. Though he taught English, rather than Greek and Latin, at Magdalen College, his interests in Classical Literature continued throughout his life, and the articles in this chapter show the breadth of his reading. Subjects range from Homer's Odyssey, with roots in the Greek Late Bronze Age, to Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy, written in the sixth century AD.
