ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Acknowledgment of thanks and expression of appreciation to many people is necessary in a project of this size.

I would like personally to thank my students for their understanding and support for me in the course of this project.

Likewise I want to thank my colleagues at Baptist Theological Seminary, Ruschlikon,

Switzerland for their understanding and their active support. Many persons have helped in various ways, large and small.

Elizabeth Green Castellina made several timely interventions in numerous ways that insured the completion of the project.

I am greatly indebted to my student and friend Christoph Weichert who has been available at all levels of involvement, from reading and criticizing the translations and seeking references, to the preparation of the indices. To my colleague Edward Furcha I am especially grateful for his patience and his expertise.

Much that is good in the translations is due to the critique of these two. I am grateful as well to others who have contributed in smaller, but still important ways:

Sonja Weichert, Lieven Schoorens, Gustav Eisenmann and Estella Blank. I want also to express my appreciation to Dikran

Y. Hadidian and to Pickwick Publications for the willingness to take on this project in time for the quinquecentennial of the birth of Zwingli.

Appreciation is also especially due to Professor Fritz Busser and the board of the Emil Brunner-Stiftung, Zurich, whose financial support has helped make possible this publication.

It is appropriate that some support for this project come out of Zurich in this year.

I am thankful for collegial support as well.

I simply run the risk of being trite in trying to express my appreciation to my wife, Arlene, and to my daughters, Nancy and Heather.

Only they can know how thankful I am and how important a role they have played in the completion of the project.
