In Visions of the Spiritual World, the Indian evangelist Sadhu Sundar Singh sets down, in seven short chapters, what he described as recurring visions of the world beyond death: the moment of dying, the world of spirits, the judgment of the unrepentant, and the joy of the righteous in the presence of Christ. Framed as conversations with angels and saints, the book is less a systematic doctrine than a devotional meditation — written, as Singh explains in his Preface, so that the teaching drawn from these experiences “should not be delayed” in reaching others. It closes with reflections on why God made mankind free, and on the purpose of suffering and creation.

About Sadhu Sundar Singh

Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889 – disappeared 1929) was an Indian Christian evangelist and ascetic. Born into a Sikh family in Punjab, he experienced a vision of Christ as a teenager that led to his conversion, after which he adopted the saffron robe of a Hindu “sadhu” (holy man) as a sign that following Christ did not require abandoning his Indian identity. He travelled widely as an itinerant preacher across India, Tibet and other parts of Asia and the West, becoming known for his simple, story-based style of teaching. Visions of the Spiritual World (1926) was written at Subathu and translated from his original Urdu by the Rev. T. E. Riddle. Three years later, in 1929, Singh set out on a journey into Tibet and was never seen again; he is presumed to have died on that journey.
