We are pleased to offer this reprint of this useful and still-insightful exposition of the “kingdom-idea” by Geerhardus Vos. We are also thankful to Danny Olinger for providing the introduction, which so ably places Vos’s person and ideas in their historical context, and details the academic responses to this book, originally published in 1903.
This edition remains unchanged with some formatting changes. The Scripture citations have been updated from Roman numerals (1 Cor xv 3) to standard modern format (1 Cor 15:3) for ease of reading. Citations have also been moved inside parentheses in accord with modern practice, whereas Vos would simply place them after a comma. A few words whose spelling is antiquated have been modernized. Otherwise, there are no further changes. The Scripture index has been reworked, since the original missed many references and the page numbers differ.
May this exposition of the Kingdom continue to equip a generation to understand Jesus’ message and heed his call to “repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15) and to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” (Matt 6:33).
