Cyril J. Davey (born 1911) was an English Methodist minister and one of the twentieth century's most prolific writers of Christian biography, with roughly seventy books to his name — many of them written for young readers as accessible introductions to the lives of missionaries, reformers and Christian social pioneers. His best-known titles include The Monk Who Shook the World (a life of Martin Luther), On the Clouds to China: The Story of Hudson Taylor, Never Say Die: The Story of Gladys Aylward, Horseman of the King: The Story of John Wesley, Saint in the Slums: The Story of Kagawa of Japan, and several histories of Methodist mission work such as The March of Methodism and The Methodist Story. This 1963 life of Sadhu Sundar Singh belongs to that same body of biographical writing for a general and often younger readership.

About Sadhu Sundar Singh
Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889 – disappeared 1929) was an Indian Christian evangelist and ascetic. Born into a Sikh family in Punjab, he experienced a vision of Christ as a teenager that led to his conversion, after which he adopted the saffron robe of a Hindu "sadhu" (holy man) as a sign that following Christ did not require abandoning his Indian identity. He travelled widely as an itinerant preacher across India, Tibet, and other parts of Asia and the West, becoming known for his simple, story-based style of teaching and for his contemplative approach to prayer. He set out on a journey into Tibet in 1929 and was never seen again; he is presumed to have died on that journey. His life and disappearance prompted numerous biographical studies in the years that followed, including this one by Cyril J. Davey.
