Evolution, Part 4

“Scientists who go about teaching that evolution is a fact of life are great con-men, and the story they are telling may be the greatest hoax ever. In explaining evolution, we do not have one iota of fact.”

Dr. T.N. Tahmisian, Atomic Energy Commission

    Kirk Cameron’s Comment

I was talking with a Christian friend who happens to be a top brain surgeon at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. As he was explaining the intricate design of the human brain and its functions, he pointed out the fact that even the most gifted scientists and doctors, with the knowledge of all the revealing, new biomedical discoveries, cannot find any reason why we should be able to hold simple conversations. The complexity of the human body’s design is beyond science’s ability to comprehend.

    Questions & Objections

“How does the young-earth theory explain that we can see stars millions of light-years away? How would the light have reached us?”

Since God made the sun, moon, and stars “to give light upon the earth” (Genesis 1:14–18), those lights would be immediately visible on earth. They fulfilled their purpose on the day God spoke them into being, because He “saw that it was good.” No doubt God also made Adam as a fully grown man—perhaps with the appearance of being 30 years old, even though he was only minutes old. Likewise, herbs and trees were already mature and fruit-bearing, to provide a ready supply of food. That would be the case with all of His creation.

    Lesson

    We Are Wonderfully Made

In his book Darwin’s Black Box, biochemistry professor Michael J. Behe, an evolutionist, acknowledges a “powerful challenge to Darwinian evolution”—something he refers to as “irreducible complexity.” He gives a simple example: the humble mousetrap. The mousetrap has five major components that make it functional. If any one of these components is missing, it will not function. It becomes worthless as a mousetrap.

If we consider the human eye, just one small part of an incredibly complex creation, we will see this same principle of irreducible complexity. The eye cannot be reduced to anything less than what it is. It has thousands of co-equal functions that make it work. If we take away just one of those functions, the rest of the eye is worthless as an eye. How then did the eye evolve when all functions had to be present at once to give it any worth?

Charles Darwin wrote in The Origin of Species, “To suppose that the eye, with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.” (No wonder—the focusing muscles in the eye move an estimated 100,000 times each day. The retina contains 137 million light-sensitive cells.) Darwin admitted, “If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down” (The Origin of Species). Thus, even the “father of evolution” himself concedes that evolution cannot be true. We are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made.

    Evolution and Blood

Another example of irreducible complexity is our blood platelets, which play an important role in preventing blood loss. As blood begins to flow from a cut or scratch, platelets respond to help the blood clot so the bleeding stops quickly.

Platelets promote the clotting process by clumping together and forming a plug at the site of a wound and then releasing proteins called “clotting factors.” These proteins start a series of chemical reactions that are extremely complicated. Every step of the clotting must go smoothly if a clot is to form. If one of the clotting factors is missing or defective, the clotting process does not work. A serious genetic disorder known as hemophilia results from a defect in one of the clotting factor genes. Because hemophilia sufferers lack one of the clotting factors, they may bleed uncontrollably from even small cuts or scrapes.

To form a blood clot there must be twelve specific individual chemical reactions in our blood. If evolution were true, and if this twelve-step process didn’t happen in the first generation (i.e., if any one of these specific reactions failed to operate in their exact reaction and order), no creatures would have survived. They all would have bled to death!

God Made Them Male and Female

Almost all forms of complex life have both male and female—horses, dogs, humans, moths, monkeys, fish, elephants, birds, etc. The male needs the female to reproduce, and the female needs the male to reproduce. One cannot carry on life without the other. Which then came first according to the evolutionary theory? If a male came into being before a female, how did the male of each species reproduce without females? How is it possible that a male and a female each spontaneously came into being, yet they have complex, complementary reproductive systems? If each sex was able to reproduce without the other, why (and how) would they have developed a reproductive system that requires both sexes in order for the species to survive?

If every creature “evolved” with no Creator, there are numerous other problems. Take for instance the first bird. Did the bird breathe? Did it breathe before it evolved lungs? How did it do this? Why did it evolve lungs if it was happily surviving without them?

Did the bird have a mouth? How did it eat before it had evolved a mouth? Where did the mouth send the food before a stomach evolved? How did the bird have energy if it didn’t eat (because it didn’t yet have a mouth and complete digestive system)? How did the bird see what there was to eat before its eyes evolved?

Evolution is intellectual suicide. It is an embarrassment. (See Romans 1:21, 22.)

    Questions for Evolutionists

According to Dr. Kent Hovind, the test of any theory is whether or not it provides answers to basic questions. Some well-meaning but misguided people think evolution is a reasonable theory to explain man’s questions about the universe. Evolution is not a good theory—it is just a pagan religion masquerading as science. Following are some of the basic questions that Dr. Hovind asks.

    1. Where did the space for the universe come from?

    2. Where did matter come from?

    3. Where did the laws of the universe come from (gravity, inertia, etc.)?

    4. How did matter get so perfectly organized?

    5. Where did the energy come from to do all the organizing?

    6. When, where, why, and how did life come from dead matter?

    7. When, where, why, and how did life learn to reproduce itself?

    8. With what did the first cell capable of sexual reproduction reproduce?

    9. Why would any plant or animal want to reproduce more of its kind since this would only make more mouths to feed and decrease the chances of survival? (Does the individual, or the species, have a drive to survive? How do you explain this?)

    10. How can mutations (recombining of the genetic code) create any new, improved varieties? (Recombining English letters will never produce Chinese books.)

    11. Is it possible that similarities in design between different animals prove a common Creator instead of a common ancestor?

    12. Natural selection works only with the genetic information available and tends only to keep a species stable. How would you explain the increasing complexity in the genetic code that must have occurred if evolution were true?

    13. When, where, why, and how did: a) Single-celled plants become multi-celled? (Where are the two- and three-celled intermediates?) b) Single-celled organisms evolve? c) Fish change to amphibians? d) Amphibians change to reptiles? e) Reptiles change to birds? (The lungs, bones, eyes, reproductive organs, heart, method of locomotion, body covering, etc., are all very different!) How did the intermediate forms live?

    14. When, where, why, how, and from what did: a) Whales evolve? b) Sea horses evolve? c) Bats evolve? d) Eyes evolve? e) Ears evolve? f) Hair, skin, feathers, scales, nails, claws, etc., evolve?

    15. Which evolved first (how, and how long, did it work without the others)? a) The digestive system, the food to be digested, the appetite, the ability to find and eat the food, the digestive juices, or the body’s resistance to its own digestive juice (stomach, intestines, etc.)? b) The drive to reproduce or the ability to reproduce? c) The lungs, the mucus lining to protect them, the throat, or the perfect mixture of gases to be breathed into the lungs? d) DNA or RNA to carry the DNA message to cell parts? e) The termite or the flagella in its intestines that actually digest the cellulose it consumes? f) The plants or the insects that live on and pollinate the plants? g) The bones, ligaments, tendons, blood supply, or muscles to move the bones? h) The nervous system, repair system, or hormone system? i) The immune system or the need for it?

Dr. Hovind has a standing offer of $250,000 to “anyone who can give any empirical evidence (scientific proof) for evolution.” His website is www.drdino.com.

    Evolution Should Not Be Taught

Dr. Colin Patterson, senior paleontologist at the British Museum of Natural History, gave a keynote address at the American Museum of Natural History, New York City, in 1981. In it he explained his sudden “anti-evolutionary” view: “One morning I woke up and ... it struck me that I had been working on this stuff for twenty years and there was not one thing I knew about it. That’s quite a shock to learn that one can be misled so long ... I’ve tried putting a simple question to various people: ‘Can you tell me anything you know about evolution, any one thing, any one thing that is true?’ I tried that question on the geology staff at the Field Museum of Natural History and the only answer I got was silence. I tried it on the members of the Evolutionary Morphology Seminar in the University of Chicago, a very prestigious body of evolutionists, and all I got there was silence for a long time and eventually one person said, ‘I do know one thing—it ought not to be taught in high school.’”

British journalist and philosopher Malcolm Muggeridge stated, “I myself am convinced that the theory of evolution, especially the extent to which it has been applied, will be one of the great jokes in the history books of the future. Posterity will marvel that so flimsy and dubious an hypothesis could be accepted with the incredible credulity that it has.”

    Words of Comfort

Almost every weekend I travel around the country teaching people how to inoffensively share their faith. My expertise is to give instruction on how they can do this without people feeling threatened.

A friend and I had gone out in his car, “cruising” for someone to speak to. I had seen three prospects and called “Stop!” but we were driving in the wrong lane and couldn’t pull over in time.

A few minutes later when I called, “There’s two!”, my friend swung the car around the next corner and screeched to a halt. He felt bad that he had missed my previous call, so he made sure he got this one.

The two individuals I had my eye on were walking away from us, so I unfastened my seat belt and, with the enthusiasm of a religious zealot, jumped out of the car and called them back. They immediately did what I said. I had two of our new “optical illusion” tracts in my pocket, so I pulled them out. These gospel tracts are “incredible” in the truest sense of the word. You hold the pink card in your right hand and the blue one in the left. The one in the right looks much longer than the one in the left. When you change the cards and hold the pink one in the left hand and the blue one in the right, the blue one suddenly looks longer. People can’t believe their eyes!

Neither could the two wide-eyed men believe their eyes when they saw the tracts. One of them immediately offered the fact that the bottles they had in brown paper bags were non-alcoholic. They told us later that they were terrified when I first approached them. They thought they were being busted by plain-clothed police officers, and that the optical illusion tracts were some sort of new sobriety test.
