Translator’s Note
A note on the translation
St. Irenaeus’ Against the Heresies has been preserved in a Latin version. Of the original Greek, we have only fragments; sections of the work are also extant in Armenian and Syriac. In the Sources Chrétiennes series (Nos 100,152, 153, 210, 211, 263, 264, 293, 294), Adelin Rousseau and his colleagues have given us a critical edition of the Latin text together with a reconstructed Greek text. For this English edition of God in Flesh and Blood, I have translated the extracts from Against the Heresies directly from the Sources Chrétiennes edition. The passages from the Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching have been translated from L. M. Froidevaux’s French translation of the Armenian text (Sources Chrétiennes No 62).
