This volume emerged out of the annual Missiology Lectures at Fuller Seminary’s School of Intercultural Studies. Most of the chapters in this volume were first heard and discussed at the 2014 Missiology Lectures, which were held November 13–15. We are grateful to the following people for their part in making these lectures happen:
President Mark Labberton and Provost C. Douglas McConnell for their support of the School of Intercultural Studies and its various initiatives;
Wendy S. Walker, Allison Norton, Johnny Ching, Caroline Kim, and others in the School of Intercultural Studies and its Center for Missiological Research for their behind-the-scenes and more obviously evident efforts in making the lectures a success;
Abigail Cook, Victoria Smith and those on the events team of Fuller Theological Seminary for their roles in organizing the logistics of the lectures;
Mike Karim and Ryan Seow, two great teaching assistants, for their work on the conference, and other PhD students who filled in admirably to attend to various tasks related to the conference and book project;
Johnny Ramírez-Johnson for his role in emceeing the sessions at the lectures;
Tod Bolsinger, Mark Lau Branson, Paul Yonggap Jeong and Steve Yamaguchi for offering elective sessions on various aspects of Newbigin’s life and/or theology;
Kevin K. Haah, Josi Hwang Koo, Mike Karim, Enoch Jinsik Kim, Mark Labberton, Daniel D. Lee, Jonathen Lew, Joy J. Moore, Diane Obenchain and Johnny Ramírez-Johnson for their responses to the presentations that stimulated revisions toward the final version of papers now included in this book.
Thanks also to each of the presenters at the lectures and others who wrote specifically for the book, some at very short notice.
We are also grateful to the staff at InterVarsity Press for many reasons: their interest in the book series of which this is the inaugural volume, their professionalism in working on the series as a whole and this book in particular in its various production phases, and their vision for publishing more in missiology and mission theology. David Congdon has been especially efficient in brokering multiple conversations that have resulted in the series and the book you now hold in your hands.
Last but not least, our wives, Nancy Sunquist and Alma Yong, deserve special recognition; neither of us would be the scholars, editors or persons we are without their support.
