Who is Lee Strobel?
Lee Strobel (born 25 January 1952) is an American author, journalist, and Christian apologist. He earned a journalism degree from the University of Missouri and a Master of Studies in Law from Yale Law School. For more than a decade he worked as a legal editor at the Chicago Tribune, where he investigated stories with the same forensic standards he later applied to Christianity. He described himself as an atheist through much of that period until a personal crisis led his wife, Leslie, to faith in Christ and prompted him to investigate the evidence for himself.
Strobel's conversion and subsequent ministry have focused on making scholarly apologetics accessible to ordinary readers. He has written numerous books in the "Case for…" series, produced video curricula, and served in teaching and pastoral roles. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential popular apologists of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, particularly among seekers and new believers in North America.
What is The Case for Christ about?
The book presents itself as a journalist's investigation. Strobel interviews thirteen leading scholars across disciplines — New Testament studies, textual criticism, archaeology, psychology, medicine, and philosophy — and structures each chapter around a single prosecutorial question. Part 1 examines whether the Gospel records can be trusted. Part 2 asks who Jesus understood himself to be. Part 3 investigates the resurrection. The 1998 Zondervan edition contains an introduction, fourteen chapters, and a conclusion spanning roughly 360 pages of text.
