MELCHEZIDEC, KING OF SALEM 'King of Salem' (Genesis 14:18) Melchezidec king of Righteousness. He was from the family of Sidon and grandson to Canaan. He was a shepherd boy. He knew only feeding the sheep and nothing else. God was with him and liked his innocence. He won the wars with Nimrod. God had chosen Melchezidec from all generations of men as God chose Mary among all women for the purpose of the birth of Christ. He chose Melchezidec and anointed him to be the High Priest of the Almighty. Then God asked him to go to a distant place which he would show and build a city in His name. As per the Word of God, Melchezidec left his duty of a shepherd boy and traveled a long distance. He laid a foundation for a new town which he called Salem, that later became Jerusalem.
