The Strengthening Look
THE STRENGTH-GIVING LOOK.
altogether differently.
Very graciously does the Master sometimes give this strengthening look—giving, in a way no one could convey to another, just what we needed for our special work.
We know that our Lord has looked upon us, and the look has flashed electric strength into heart and hand ; and we go on our way rejoicing, not at all in feeling any more able than before, but in the brightness of His power, saying, 'I will go in the strength of the Lord God.' And then His own strength Bspxiivings ib. Ixxi. 16, ib. Ixxxvi, 16, is ours, and He says, 'Go in this thy might,' for 'thy God hath commanded thy strength ;' and yet we know more distinctly than ever that it is /Zzs strength which is made perfect in our weakness.
Who is it that shall have the strengthening look of the Lord?
'To this man will I look,' saith Jehovah, 'even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit.'
It was he who said, 'What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog ib. Ixvili, 28, Tsa, xlv. 24, 2 Cor, xil. 9

Itisso different from human guidance.
How seldom we feel that a human counsellor has seen our difficulty from every point of view, balanced all its bearings, and given guidance which will meet all contingencies, and be right not only on one side, but 'on every side."
But 'His work is perfect' in this as in all other details ; He will guide 'when ye turn to the right hand, azd when ye turn to the left.'
Perhaps we have gone about as Elymas did in his mist and darkness, 'seeking some to lead him by the hand,' putting confidence in earthly guides, and finding again and again Deut, xxxii. ae Isa, xxx. 21, Acts xiii. rr, | Mic. vii. 5, | Matt. xv. 14.
