Subscription can be reduced to a minimum of Rs. 3 for the benefit of poorer members.
12.
The amount collected by way of subscriptions and donations shall be deposited in the Bank after deducting the minimum sum required for the smooth and efficient running of the Samaj.
13.
Those who wish to become members of this Samaj shall, before God and in the name of their religion, pledge themselves with a vow:
'In this social work, I shall not be partial nor entertain any unsocial activity but shall offer my personal help with integrity as long as I live'.
14.
Members contravening this vow or the Samaj's rules shall be disqualified and their names shall be struck off from the membership roll.
Panditabai enforced these rules in the formation of similar institutions in Bombay and Poona.
In November the same year, Pandita Ramabai arrived in Bombay and gave a series of lectures in the Prarthana Samaj and various other places. On 25 November 1882, she spoke on the "The Objectives of Arya Mahila Samaj". It was one of her most informative and interesting lectures lasting over an hour.
Her popularity and the magnitude of the movement inspired by her were evident in the fact that over 200 women and 400 men attended this lecture.
On 30 November, under the presidentship of Mrs. Gangutai Bhandare another meeting of over 150 women was held with a view to firmly establishing another Arya Mahila Samaj in Bombay. At this meeting Panditabai explained the objects and principles of the Arya Mahila Samaj. On the very same day the Samaj was formally established with 16 women volunteering .for the membership. Some asked for time to think it over while a few others asked a number of questions to clarify their doubts.
Next day, 8 more women joined the Samaj. It was later announced that the women's educational meetings, held so far, will, in future, be amalgamated with the meetings of the Samaj.
Many men and particularly some editors considered Ramabai's views as a revolt against the male species of the human society!

RAMANUJAN—THE MAN AND THE MATHEMATICIAN
S R RANGANATHAN
THIs Is the moving story of the life of Ramanujan, the great Indian mathematical genius who appeared suddenly as a meteor in 1887, rushed through a short span of thirty-two years, consumed himself, and disappeared with equal suddenness.
At the age of thirteen he had mastered Loney's Trigonometry and even calculated the length of the equator of the earth.
The book unfolds in quick succession the chief events of his life beginning with his search in 1911 for a clerical post, to his sailing to England in 1914 and his return home in 1919.
The book contains the reminiscences of several surviving contemporaries of Ramanujan.
It highlights his penetrating intuition and childlike simplicity. He was a "Seer" in mathematics.
Though agnostic in arguments, he was ever conscious of the immanence of God.
THE PAIS OF MANIPAL
SELDEN MENEFEE
SELDEN MENEFEE narrates in the pages of this book the enchanting story of the Pai family whose undaunted courage and extraordinary vision brought about an unbelievable transformation of Manipal, an out-of-the-way place on the West Coast of India, overlooking the Arabian Sea.
The story centres round the achievements of Dr Tonse Madhava Ananta Pai, a medical practitioner and a pioneer, who set out not only to cure the physical ills of his fellowmen but also to alleviate their economic plight.
The Kasturba Medical College and the Kasturba General Hospital are monuments to Dr Pai's untiring zeal.
Also, while practising as a physician, Dr Pai became instrumental in developing the Canara Industrial and Banking Syndicate Ltd., now known as the Syndicate Bank
Ltd., one of the leading commercial banking organizations in the country.
