- opposed to the death threatened in the clause foregoing, "If ye live after ≈ 6 min
- always to be mortified. The vain, foolish, and ignorant disputes of men ≈ 4 min
- bring forth the deeds of the flesh. When sin lets us alone we may let sin ≈ 8 min
- but if let alone, if not continually mortified, it will bring forth great, ≈ 4 min
- unto us, -- that we may have a principle within whereby to oppose sin and ≈ 4 min
- to that which the apostle affirms was his, 2 Cor. 4:16, "Though our ≈ 4 min
- to be "growing in grace" every day, 1 Pet. 2:3, 2 Pet 3:18; to be "renewing ≈ 3 min
- at least, of sins of daily infirmity. The root of an unmortified course is the ≈ 3 min
- (1.) It hardens them, by begetting in them a persuasion that they are in as ≈ 3 min
- What several ways have been prescribed for this, to have sin mortified, is ≈ 6 min
- (1.) He is promised of God to be given unto us to do this work. The taking ≈ 12 min
- to it. A man may be carried on in a constant course of mortification all his ≈ 3 min
- consolation, mortification is not one of the immediate causes of it. They ≈ 3 min
- dealing with us, the vigour and comfort of our spiritual lives depend ≈ 25 min
- (1.) An habitual weakening of it. Every lust is a depraved habit or ≈ 19 min
- Christ, -- he can never mortify any one sin; I do not say, unless he know ≈ 18 min
- work to be done that will be effected by one only instrument, it is the ≈ 3 min
- oftentimes pleased to put forth, to the wounding, amazing, and, in some ≈ 3 min
- yet it is not profitable nor available as to the main end in them in whom it ≈ 4 min
- from mortification, but put them upon conversion. He that shall call a ≈ 7 min
- Without sincerity and diligence in a universality of obedience, there is ≈ 12 min
- suffered it to abide in power and prevalency, without attempting ≈ 3 min
- up its peace, notwithstanding the abiding of a lust, without a vigorous ≈ 7 min
- consent of the will unto it, is another dangerous symptom. This is that I ≈ 3 min
- issue or the punishment due unto it, this is a sign that sin hath taken ≈ 7 min
- hardness, or at least of chastening punishment, in thy lust as disquieting. ≈ 3 min

- (1.) Of being hardened by the deceitfulness. This the apostle charges on ≈ 10 min
- is to come; evil, what is present. Some of the many evils that attend an ≈ 10 min
- particulars:-- ≈ 7 min
- benefits of it are to be considered, as redemption, justification, and the ≈ 6 min
- an open profaneness, will ascribe gross enormities to their temper and ≈ 3 min
- with God, is that so great an advantage is given to sin, as also to Satan, by ≈ 3 min
- man, unto all other ways and means already named or farther to be ≈ 9 min
- thine infinite, inconceivable distance from him. Many thoughts of it ≈ 2 min
- knowest enough to keep thee low and humble, yet how little a portion is it ≈ 6 min
- sight, a sight of God as "gracious," etc., and yet it is called but his "back ≈ 3 min
- law, manifesting that now the "veil" causing darkness is taken away, so ≈ 24 min
- to whom he pleases ("He hath mercy on whom he will," Rom. 9:18; and ≈ 3 min
- Christ to speak it home to the conscience. Speaking to the church of ≈ 3 min

- great sovereign remedy for sin-sick souls. Live in this, and thou wilt die a ≈ 25 min
