Dedication

This book has been a labor of love, but it also owes a great debt to many people. Wesley scholars I never met, such as Frank Baker, Albert Outler, Manfred Marquardt, and others, have enriched my understanding of Wesley. Other scholars of Wesley with whom I have talked and worked include Richard Heitzenrater, Charles Yrigoyen, Gayle Felton, Dale Dunlap, Thomas Langford, Scott Jones, and William Abraham. I am deeply indebted to all of them for insights into Wesley’s life and thought. Any mistakes, of course, are the results of my own limitations. George Donigian of Discipleship Resources suggested the direction of the book and proved a faithful and supportive editor. I am deeply grateful for his wisdom and skill.

My wife, Beth, supported my involvement in this book, and graciously blessed the time and energy I spent working on it. I owe her many days of fun and travel.
