How to Use This Book
You will find it helpful to notice three things about this book.
1. The creed has been broken down into six main sections, each of which is suitable for an evening’s study. Don’t let my division of the material get in your way! If you feel you need more time to study a section, take it at your own pace. If you are part of a small group or class working through this book, you will want to read a chapter before you meet and then use the “questions for group discussion” when you gather. (Note the section “Helps for Group Leaders” at the end of the book.) You can also read through the book and consider the questions on your own.
2. Each section attempts to explore the biblical foundations of the creed, to deal with some common questions, to explain ideas that some find confusing, and to demonstrate the relevance of these beliefs to everyday life. Much more could be said about every part of the creed. It is hoped, however, that you will find some of my ideas and illustrations helpful.
3. Each section includes a list of key Bible passages, to allow you to explore the scriptural foundations of what you have just studied, and ends with some suggestions for further reading, to allow you to explore the creed’s teachings in greater depth.
