PART FOUR: So What Can We Do?

PART FOUR: So What Can We Do?

PART FOUR

So What Can We Do?

Whether we are patients, politicians, or pastors, God calls us to be brave in the brave new world. There is something for each of us to do, and it starts here.

The biotech agenda of the brave new world involves three successive assaults on the sanctity of life that God made in his image: taking, making, and faking. Abortion and embryo research have so far focused on the taking of human life. Yet as biotech unfolds its new powers, the emphasis will move from taking life to making life — designing babies to order, reshaping human nature. And beyond biology, developments in fields like robotics threaten a third wave: the faking of life, as machines are used to enhance and change human nature itself.

This is just the beginning of the “biotech century,” and God has given us a unique opportunity to shape how things unfold in the years to come. He has placed us as believers in the twenty-first century, and we need to prepare ourselves to make a difference.

Now we turn to the challenges of what lies ahead, and what to do about it with God.

“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked” (Psalm 82:3 – 4).
