Day Twenty-Three Evening
Day TWENTY-THREE EVENING
Called by Name T have called you by your name.'
Tsatah 43:1
Look out, if it is a clear night, and see the stars sparkling all over the sky. You cannot count them; no one can, because there are more than eyes or telescopes have ever reached. But 'God calls them all by names.' He knows every one separately. And yet, though he has all those wonderful worlds of light in his hands, and 'brings out their host by number, he turns to say to each of his weak children on this dark earth, 'I have called you by your name.'
Day TWENTY-THREE EVENING
He knows your name; you ate not just one of the rest to him, you ate known by name to him. Say aloud your own name — Jesus knows this name also!
That name was given you in his presence, and by his minister, when you were baptized, in obedience to our Saviout's command. God knows it, and calls you by it.
But he has done more than this. Why do you read this little book every night? Why do you want to hear about Jesus, and salvation, and heaven?
What is it that seems like a little voice inside, persuading you to seek and love Jesus?
That is God's own voice in yout heart, calling you by name! For you know it is to you, because it is only in your own heart; no one else even knows of it.
When he calls like this, listen, and see what else he has to say to you: 'Fear not; for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name; you are mine!'
Day TWENTY-THREE EVENING
Jesus ts our Shepherd, For the sheep he bled, Every lamb 1s sprinkled With the blood he shed.
Then on each he setteth Hits own secret sign; 'They that have my Spirit, These,' saith he, 'are mine.'
Day TwENTY-Four MORNING Soldiers 'Chosen to be a soldier.'
2 Timothy 2:4
Are you a soldier? You should be, for you have been chosen to be a soldier in the glorious army of Jesus Christ.
You should be, for you have been 'received into the congregation of Christ's flock' at your baptism. You have been enrolled to fight under Christ's banner against sin, the world and the devil. You have been enlisted to continue as Christ's faithful soldier and servant until your

Day TwENTY-FourR MORNING life's end. You can never undo that, even if you are a deserter and found in the enemy's ranks.
The Captain of our salvation will not undo it, if you will only come and enlist now. This very morning ask Jesus to receive you into his noble army and to give you, first, the shield of his salvation and then the whole armour of God and to teach you how to fight sin and the Devil and to give you victories every day. He will then let you share his grand triumphs afterwards.
Perhaps you have enlisted already? Perhaps you know that you love your Captain Jesus and he is helping you to fight the good fight of faith? What made you enlist? Was it because you were so brave and wonderful? Oh no! It was all because of Jesus. He chose you to be a soldier.
You did not chose him to be a Captain. And then in the end it was the beautiful call of his love which persuaded you to join his ranks. Now he fights not only beside you, and with you, but for £52
Day TWENTY-FourR MORNING you. In his war 'nothing shall by any means hurt you, for 'he was wounded' for you. Your life is
. safe with him, for he laid down his own for you.
By his side you can never be defeated, because he goes forth 'always conquering and to conquer.'
Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
Ye solders of the cross; Lift high his royal banner, It must not suffer loss.
From victory to victory His army shall be led, Till every foe is vanquished, And Christ is Lord indeed.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
The trumpet call obey; Forth to the mighty confit.
In this his glorious day!
Day TwENTY-FourR EVENING 'That day when I make up my jewels.'
Matachi 3:17
"My jewels!' God tells us who they are — "Every one who fears the Lord, and thinks upon his name.' So if you fear the Lord, and think upon his name, you are one of his jewels, and all that you are going to read about them is for you, and means you.
'My jewels!' They are his 'special treasure.'
His very own, dearer than all other treasures to him. We see how very precious they are to him
Day TwENTY-Four EvENING by the price he paid for them. For every one of them has been purchased, not with silver and gold (all the silver and gold in the world would not have been enough to purchase one of them), but with the precious blood of Christ. That was the greatest thing God had to give, and he gave it for them.
God has found and chosen his jewels, and he will never lose them. Every one is kept safe in the casket of his everlasting love. He does not mean to hide them away, and be ashamed of them; for he says they shall 'be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God! They are not all the same, jewels are of many different colours and sizes; but the day is coming when he will make them up, when they will all be gathered in his treasury, and shine in his glorious crown. Not one will be forgotten, or overlooked, or lost, for every one is 'precious in his sight'
Day TwENTY-Fowur EVENING Is it not a grand thing to be one of God's jewels? How very wonderful that he should give such a beautiful name to his-poor, sinful, worthless children, and set such shining hopes before them! Should we not to try to walk worthy of this high and holy calling?
Sons of Zion, ye are precious In your heavenly Father's sight; Ye are his pecuhar treasure, And his jewels of delight.
Sought and chosen, cleansed and polished, Purchased with transendent cost, Kept in his own royal casket, Never, never to be lost.
