Theme Measuring God’ Love - Paul’s way
In the Bible and elsewhere, many writers/thinkers used different language expressions to express the love of God. But Paul in his inimitable style uses unprecedented language to express his understanding of God’s love in this passage
Vs20: “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to that power that worketh in us.”
First HIS love is ‘exceeding abundantly’ and that too, much above than we ask, or think. ‘Exceeding abundantly’ is above the known Superlative degree
Ostensibly, Paul’s statement appears to be hyperbolic and far from truth. No, Bible had abundant examples in support of Paul’s Love version of God. Here are some
- Acts. 3:1-6:- In this passage, the lame person opened his mouth and asked alms. In return we see ‘lame person leaping.’ He got ‘exceeding abundantly’ than he asked for
- Luke.15: 11-32. Here the prodigal son, having reached the dead end, returned back to his Father and asked in Vs 19, 21 “ And am no more worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hired servant” What he got is ‘exceeding Abundant’. Vs.24 “ for this my son was dead and is alive again” ‘ Serventship to Sonship’
- Luke.19:2-9.A rich man by name Zaccheus, Vs.3 “he sought to see Jesus who he was” It was only a thought in him. He did not even open his mouth. What he got is amazing vs. 5&9: Jesus said “Zacccheus, make haste and come down, for to day I must abide at thy house.” “This day is salvation come to this house…”‘ Sinner to Saint
- Luke. 23:39-43:- The second thief on the cross after recognizing Messiah in Jesus, he asked Jesus, Vs 42 “ Lord, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom” What he received directly from Jesus him self is some thing unique
Vs43: And Jesus said unto him “Verily I say unto the, Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise” Salvation instantaneously. Punishment to Paradise
But in order to be eligible for such blessings from HIM we need to do something and that is recorded in the Text Vs.20: “According to the power that worketh in us”. Jesus is the inexhaustible power source. The above promises of Jesus are still holds good to us provided we abide in HIM, and receivers of HIS power
I fully believe our Redeemer has already granted unto you many blessings,in many facets of your lives exceeding abundantly in this blessed country called America, all these years and I wish and pray our Lord may continue to shower HIS blessings on you & on this Great country in the years to come, exceeding abundantly
My expression of HIS Love: God’s Love exists behind every heart beat of ours
