About Bro. Edward Williams Kuntam
Bro. Edward Williams was born into a committed Christian family. At his birth his parents had dedicated him to serve God. While he was growing up he was a disciplined child but all that changed when he got into college. He took up a life that was contrary to the vow made by his parents. At college his life was completely different. I used to go to the cinemas bunking classes and then slowly, I went into other areas like smoking and boozing and finally I became a drug addict, said Edward. When Edward needed money to buy drugs he tried his hand at pick pocketing, something he had never done before. He picked his own father’s pocket. That evening Mummy took me out and asked me who had taken the 20 Rupees. Have you taken that money? she asked. In the beginning I tried to deny it but when I saw her crying, I could not withhold myself and I said, It is me. Then I said, Mummy, I am sorry, but I was astonished to find Mummy saying, In what way do you think I can forgive you? I can’t do anything else. Even if I forgive you, can that remove the pain you are having in your heart? I said No. And that was the time she spoke to me about Jesus Christ, said Edward. His problems didn't end there. He also lost his father’s much-treasured pen. Feeling afraid to speak to his father, he took up the matter with Jesus instead. I prayed, Lord, if you are really there, Jesus Christ, please provide me the pen, and when I did not get it I became very frustrated, said Edward. Later that evening his friend Suresh asked him to attend a prayer meeting. His heart laden with guilt he accompanied Suresh to the prayer meeting. On that day, I asked some questions to the person taking the Bible study but he could not answer them. I thought Well, even religion doesn't have answers, even Jesus Christ cannot answer my questions, and I felt very bad as I was going home, said Edward. Feeling terribly run down with guilt, depression and pain he decided to put an end to his life. I thought nothing can solve my problem, everything goes against me and there is pain in me. I thought the only way to get rid of it is to kill myself, said Edward. He went and stood on the railway tracks waiting for the next train. He was surprised to see his friend Suresh come there. Edward said, My friend Suresh came and stopped me. He asked me, Why do you want to do this? I could not understand how Suresh could reach there at that time and I said, Well, I am frustrated, I can’t go on with the guilt any more. Suresh started speaking to me about Jesus Christ. He said, Jesus can solve your problems. He died on the cross, He took our guilt and our shame on to Him, He died in our place, That really made me think and I thought, Ok, here is a way out, said Edward. At that moment, Edward knew that he had found a way out. He knew that he would be delivered from all his habits. After that I prayed to Jesus Christ for the first time confessing my sins. I said, I am a sinner, and I don't know how but I felt that a load was taken away and I felt great freedom within me, said Edward. That night Edward mustered the courage and wrote a letter to his father explaining what he had done. He left the letter in his father’s room. Filled with apprehension he waited for his father’s reaction the next morning. Early in the morning my dad came in and woke me up. I was so worried how Dad would react but he looked at me and said, Good morning, and that was the time I was really shocked. He said, Don't worry, my son. I read your letter. I said, Dad I lost your pen! Aren't you worried? He said, Don't worry, I lost a pen but I found my son. That gave me great joy and it is true, Jesus started working in my life, said Edward. After he completed his studies in Management, Edward joined a firm but soon realized that God had a different call on his life. I worked as a manager for few years but inside me there was always a drive that I should do ministry. There was always a struggle. In that struggle I asked God to give me a clear direction and in the year 89, I was clearly convinced that it was God who is calling me into His ministry. So I left the job and then joined the U.E.S.I (Union of Evangelical Students of India) in the year 1990, he said. Edward pursued his studies in Theology at the South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies. He lives in Bangalore with his wife Christie and two daughters. Edward Williams is well known as the host of CBN India's Telugu weekly television program Nireekshana.

How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the darkness
Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The king of kings calls me His own
Beautiful savior, I'm yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, yours is the victory, whoa!
Jesus, yours is the victory, whoa!
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Oh God, you are my living hope
