I, grew up in a poor military family. I remember having to spread our jam thin on the bread as a kid. We used the good syrup only for our family, never for guests. And my father often said that people didn’t like our looks. My father’s Marine Corps belt was used as a weapon of terror against us if we disobeyed.
But growing up in a military family had its’ advantages as well. I lived three years on the island of Bermuda and two years on the island of Guam. I vividly remember snorkeling in the coral reef shores of Guam picking up shells with tongs so that I wouldn’t get stung by the animals that lived inside.
After going through two motorcycles, an MG sports car, a couple of horses, and rafting down the Arkansas River in Colorado before commercial companies ever began to market their raft rides, I graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in psychology in 1978.
In 1986, I graduated from Denver Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and spent fourteen years in an Asian country with my wife, Janet, from New Jersey, my son Jeremiah, and my daughter, Jessica was born in the country that we consider to be our second home.
For the past five years I have lived in New Jersey and minister to Muslims, Hindus, and other immigrants in the NYC metro area. I have been with the same mission organization, www.WorldVenture.com for twenty-two years.
Also, I am working towards the Doctor of Divinity degree at Columbia International University. I am praying about teaching in a Missionary Training School overseas in the future, as the Lord opens the door.
