Jerusalem
City of David, site of the temple, the passion, Pentecost, and the church’s first home. Prophets weep over it; Revelation ends with a new Jerusalem.

Egypt
Place of both refuge and bondage. Abraham, Joseph, and the holy family go down; Moses leads Israel out. The exodus becomes the pattern of salvation.
Mount Sinai / Horeb
The mountain of the bush, the law, and Elijah’s whisper. God meets his people in fire and in a thin silence.
Canaan / the land
The land promised to Abraham, entered under Joshua, lost in exile, and still the stage of the Gospels. Rest in the land points beyond itself.
Babylon
Empire of exile in Kings, Daniel, and the prophets; a symbol of proud world power in Revelation. God is Lord there too.
Galilee
Northern region of Jesus’ ministry—Capernaum, the lake, Nazareth nearby. Light dawns in Galilee of the nations.
Judea
Southern hill country around Jerusalem and Bethlehem. John baptizes in the wilderness of Judea; Jesus is tried in Jerusalem.
Samaria
Capital of the northern kingdom; later a region Jesus crosses and to which Acts bears witness. The good Samaritan and the woman at the well undo old hostilities.
Nineveh
Assyrian city that repents at Jonah’s preaching and later falls in Nahum. Mercy and justice both visit it.
Rome
Paul’s destination in Acts and the likely horizon of several letters. The gospel reaches the heart of the empire without a sword.
