Sadhu Sundar Singh: Called of God by Mrs. Arthur Parker

Mrs. Arthur Parker’s 1920 biography follows Sundar Singh (b. 1889, Rampur, Punjab), raised in a devout Sikh family, through his conversion to Christ in 1905 after burning the Christian Bible given to him, his taking the vows of a Christian sadhu, and the itinerant preaching journeys that followed — across the Punjab and North India, repeated closed-land journeys into Tibet, and, in 1918–1919, a sustained mission tour through South India, Ceylon, Burma, the Federated Malay States, China and Japan. Drawn largely from the author’s own conversations with the Sadhu at Trivandrum in 1918, the book closes with his reflections on Christ, the cross, and the Sanyasi Mission, followed by appendices on his father, on travelling in Tibet, on the Sikhs, and on his illustrations, with material added to the fourth American edition covering his 1920 visit to the West.
