According to Promise, or, The Lord's Method of Dealing with His Chosen People, is one of Charles Haddon Spurgeon's best-loved devotional works, tracing the story of Abraham's two sons — Ishmael, "born after the flesh," and Isaac, "born through promise" (Galatians 4:23) — as a picture of the difference between nominal religion and the new birth God alone can give. First published in 1900 (Passmore & Alexander / Gospel Hour edition), it remains a searching, comforting guide to what it means to be a true "child of the promise."
