UECF UECF.NETOrthodox Study BibleNew King James Version (NKJV)

About this edition

This is the full Orthodox Study Bible: the Old Testament translated from the Septuagint by the St. Athanasius Academy of Orthodox Theology (SAAS), together with the New Testament in the New King James Version (NKJV) and Orthodox study notes, introductions, and articles — the same text and translation used by the printed 2008 Orthodox Study Bible.

This web edition was extracted from the source PDF:

Orthodox-Study-Bible.pdf

A note on which source file was used. Two Orthodox Study Bible PDFs are available in the project folder: Orthodox-Study-Bible.pdf (a clean, complete, full-canon copy of the 2008 Orthodox Study Bible — Old and New Testaments, 78 books) and Orthodox-Study-Bible-NKJV.pdf (an Internet Archive scan of the earlier 1993 Orthodox Study Bible: New Testament and Psalms edition, which does not include the Old Testament and whose OCR text is heavily garbled by its two-column layout). Because the task requires the complete Bible with no omitted books, and because inventing or guessing at garbled OCR text is not acceptable, this edition was built from Orthodox-Study-Bible.pdf instead — it contains the same NKJV New Testament plus the complete SAAS Old Testament, cleanly extracted. If a different source file is preferred, let UECF.NET know and the extraction pipeline (orthodox-study-bible-project/pipeline/) can be re-pointed at it.
This is not automatically public domain text. The source includes explicit publisher copyrights:

Why this matters for this site

The site's data files are deliberately structured so that swap can happen without touching the code: each chapter's Scripture and notes live in their own small JSON file under data/chapters/<book>/<chapter>.json.

Before this edition (or any part of its Scripture wording/study notes/layout) is published publicly on the live uecf.net domain, UECF.NET should either obtain explicit written permission from the copyright holders/publishers or replace the content with genuinely public-domain material.

Extraction notice

The web experience in this folder reuses the same client-side, data-driven architecture as the existing UECF.NET Study Bible editions (search, deep links, copy verse, and study-note panel). The extraction covers all 78 books of the Orthodox canon (51 Old Testament, 27 New Testament) across 1,346 chapters, matching the source PDF's table of contents, with 39,042 verses and 8,593 study notes. Every book's opening and closing chapters, several famous passages (Psalm 23, John 3, Romans 8, Isaiah 53, 1 Corinthians 13, and others) across both Testaments, and a number of interior chapters were individually spot-checked against the source PDF for accurate wording, correct verse numbering, and note placement. As with any PDF-derived text, an occasional stray artifact is possible in an unreviewed chapter — if you spot one, the affected chapter's JSON file under data/chapters/<book>/<chapter>.json can be corrected directly.
